In almost 30 years of history and 4 generations, Kia completely renews its Sportage by presenting the Kia Sportage 2022.

The design relies on the language of the new “Opposites United” stylistic course, inaugurated with the EV6.

From a technical point of view, the new Kia Sportage adopts the platform of the latest generation of the Hyundai Tucson thus allowing the adoption of Mild Hybrid, Full Hybrid, and Plug-In Hybrid engines. Kia's SUV fits into the heart of the high-wheeled car market, the C segment, offering as characteristic elements a bold design and very complete technological equipment.

Kia has not yet revealed the Sportage 2022 price list, however, no fundamental changes are expected from the model on the market today. The SUV should be offered at an offensive price of about $30,000 for the non-electrified versions, rising to about $30,000 by choosing the engine with mild-hybrid technology.

The current generation Sportage does not support full hybrid power units, however, considering its Hyundai Tucson cousin, a starting price of around $40,000 can be assumed. Finally, for the Plug-In Hybrid version, the attack price should continue to increase without exceeding $50,000.


The Kia Sportage 2022 will arrive on the market with a wide range of engines, from the canonical petrol and diesel to the more ecological hybrid versions. The 1.6 T-GDI 150 and 180hp petrol and the 1.6 CRDi 136hp diesel will be available with front-wheel drive and manual gearbox. There are three 48V Mild Hybrid engines: the 1.6 T-GDI 150 HP 2WD, the 1.6 T-GDI 180 HP 2WD / 4WD with 7DCT automatic transmission, and the 1.6 CRDi 136 HP 2WD / 4WD also with 7DCT automatic transmission.

It should be emphasized that the Kia Sportage should be, together with the Tucson, one of the few cars available with a hybrid system that can be combined with a diesel engine, an atypical solution, which for some users could be an excellent mobility solution. Only one engine for the Full Hybrid version: the 1.6 T-GDI 230 HP 2WD / 4WD with 6-speed automatic gearbox. Finally, the Plug-In version will reach a power of 265 hp. The Plug-In variant combines the combustion engine with a 66.9 kW electric motor powered by a 13.8 kWh battery, while the Full Hybrid variant while maintaining the same propulsion scheme offers a 1.49 kWh battery.


The dimensions of the Kia Sportage 2022 do not vary particularly compared to the previous generation, the length is in fact 4.52 m (3cm more than the model it replaces) ensuring an excellent compromise between external dimensions and habitability.

Externally, the Sportage 2022 offers a completely revised design. The front is dominated by the very large grille which for the occasion abandons the classic name "Tiger Nose" becoming "Digital Tiger Face". The stylistic feature of the tiger nose remains, indeed doubles, it is possible to recognize it both between the bonnet and the gray eyelid that unites the headlamps and between the bonnet and the lower design of the grille itself. The headlights take on a truly original shape, the boomerang light signature gives the car momentum and personality by visually hiding the actual headlights. The latter, of an equally unusual rhomboid shape, ideally continues the design of the front grille.

The side loses all stylistic quirks and focuses on the purity of the surfaces. Two deep ribs lighten the volumes and a skillful play of glass surfaces and aluminum-colored elements make the C-pillar "disappear".

The rear becomes more tormented. The headlights are composed of multiple lines and edges, are joined by the trendy light bar, and are positioned very high, as per Sportage tradition. Good boot capacity ranging between 591 and 1,780 liters by folding the rear seats in 40:20:40 mode.


The interior of the Kia Sportage 2022 follows the innovations introduced with the electric EV6. Therefore, the numerous physical keys and the central screen separated from the instrumentation disappear.

In its place, we find a single glass panel that incorporates both the digital instrumentation and the screen used for infotainment, the two actual displays measure 12.3 inches.

The air conditioning vents are integrated all around the glass surface, continuing without discontinuity up to the door panel. The main keys are all grouped on the central tunnel, the latter will be used for the management of the transmission, the starting of the engine, the selection of driving modes, and other main features of the set-up and engine.

There are numerous ADAS including forwarding Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning function to prevent accidents at intersections, Highway Driving Assist connected to Smart Cruise Control Curve and Speed ​​Limit Assist and Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist with Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist. Along with the 360-degree cameras, there is also the Blind View Monitor which shows the images of the dark corner on the screen when you are about to turn.


The new Kia Sportage introduces a breath of fresh air both in terms of design and technique.

The last two generations of the model have evolved in the name of continuity, the2022 edition aims to be a real revolution. The new platform guarantees performance and safety at the top of the category, the now inevitable ADAS systems are numerous and certainly well calibrated as on the sister Tucson and the plethora of engines to choose from satisfies even the most demanding.

Compared to its sister Tucson, the Kia Sportage adds the new Terrain Mode that allows you to adjust the vehicle settings to face in the best six ways: snow, mud, and sand. Also new is the set-up which, with the electronically controlled suspension, is able to guarantee comfort at the top of the category.
